For a 27th season, Chris Chelios announced Tuesday that he would not return to the NHL. Behind only Gordie Howe, he exits professional hockey as the second oldest player to ever take the ice.

In Montreal, Chicago, Detroit and Atlanta, Chelios spent his playing days. Three Stanley Cups and three Norris trophies were won by the 48-year-old defenseman.

Chelios’ next step is working as an adviser in Detroit. While helping to guide younger players, he will consult with the coaching staff and with the Red Wing’s upper management.

Chelios first broke in with Montreal and remained a Canadien for seven seasons, as a player himself. Before being dealt to Detroit, a trade sent him to the Blackhawks and he played nine seasons in Chicago. For the Thrashers, his last NHL action came in seven March games.

To be a member, the U.S. Olympic hockey team chose Chelios four times. He helped bring home a silver medal in 2002 and three times, he served as captain.

A broken leg made him miss about 75% of Detroit’s 2008-09 season, despite the incredible endurance of Chelios and intense training. For 2009-10, the Red Wings subsequently did not bring him back.

As leader in postseason games played, Chelios leaves the NHL, having taken the ice in 266. His 1,651 regular season games put him at fourth place all-time.

With a somewhat dubious honor, the intense style of play Chelios demonstrated leaves him walking away. Second all-time among defensemen is his 2,891 penalty minutes.

The Escondido Sports Center recently held a roller hockey tournament that featured more than one hundred hockey games. The tournament featured teams from all over the western half of the nation and served as a qualifying tournament for the North American Roller Championship hockey finals. The finals will take place soon in San Jose, California.

This event is really a big deal for the area. The tournament was the largest of its kind to ever be held in San Diego County. The tournament attracted a wide range of talent. Certainly not every player in the tournament was a top prospect, but there were players that are NCAA Division I hockey players. This sort of attraction was a huge success for the city and area in general.

There were several different divisions, and the big winner of the Junior Men’s group was a team from Las Vegas, called the Las Vegas Tour Rebels. En route to winning the tournament the Las Vegas Rebels had to beat the Stingrays to take the title. They were successful, winning by a score of 7-3.

This tournament is one of 19 that are held worldwide in the United States and Canada. By performing at a high enough level, the teams are able to participate in the aforementioned North American Roller Championship hockey finals and can gain huge fan popularity by NHL hockey previews.

This tournament also serves as a start for many young players. Children are able to take part in this tournament against others their age as they begin playing hockey at ages younger than 8 years old.

Roller hockey is similar ice hockey, except that it is played on land instead of ice. Instead of wearing ice skates, players wear skates with wheels.

There are two different kinds of roller hockey: quad and inline. Quad is the traditional roller hockey, in which players wear roller skates that have four wheels. Inline hockey is a newer form, in which players wear inline skates.

Both games are fast, but the different skates lend to different types of action. Compared to inline skates, quad skates allow players to make fast maneuvers in any direction. Compared to quad skates, inline skates allow players to quickly race across the rink, much as ice hockey players do.

Roller hockey (quad) is played worldwide, but especially in Europe. The standout clubs are in Portugal, Spain and Italy. In 1992, roller hockey was a demonstration sport in the Summer Olympics in Barcelona. Roller hockey is also called quad hockey, international style ball hockey, rink hockey and hardball hockey.

Roller hockey (inline) is also played worldwide, but it is strongest in the United States, which has dominated the Inline Hockey World Championships. Inline hockey is also known as ball hockey, longstick hockey, road hockey, street hockey and skater hockey.

Alexander Ovechkin is one of the most electric players in the NHL today. He has consistently been at the forefront of production on the ice. Whether he is scoring replay worthy goals or making near impossible passes he continues to be a dominant force.

The same is true for his production in the NHL Playoffs. Alex has lead his team, the Washington Capitals, to the playoffs for three consecutive years. He has played a total of 27 playoff games so far. In these games he has managed to rack up 20 goals and 19 assists for a total 39 points. Five of his goals have been when his team has been on a power play and three of his goals have been game winners.

He has only accumulated eight penalty minutes throughout his playoff career. All of these came during the Caps 2008-2009 playoff run. Alexander Ovechkin has already proven that he isn’t just a regular season player and that he can step up on the biggest of stages, the NHL playoffs.

With such great production in his first three playoff runs, Alexander Ovechkin will continue to put on a show of excellence and talent for many years to come.

On March 24, 2010, the NHL partnered with MSG to deliver the Islanders/Rangers game in 3D, from the Madison Square Garden. To have ever been produced, it was the first 3D network hockey game. MSG is one of the industry leaders in delivering up-to-date and current technology for viewers. Knicks and Rangers home games in HD were the first produced.
The 3D broadcast started with a pre-game viewing party, at the Madison Square Garden Theater. On Cablevision channel and on few providers, the telecast was shown. The seats were filled before the video NHL Hockey previews took place and the tickets to the event cost around twenty bucks.
The game was captured by the use of technology that captures video in 3D imagery. These cameras used pixel enhancing software and were produced by 3ality Digital. A lot of work was done by them behind the scenes and it paid off.
Michael Bair, the President of MSG media, talked about MSG extending into 3-D TV makes sense as they always have been a leader in new technology. From top to bottom, this remodeling venture looks to completely re-outfit the arena and more to the performing athletes and trainers would get help.
The way we watch sports can be completely changed by 3D telecasting. It makes sense that it would be time for another jump as it did just a few years back and High Definition Television technology is improving. When it comes to 3D technology there is a good chance that it will soon be the standard viewing method for sports fanatics everywhere and there are still a few bugs to be worked out.

The Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadians are set to square off this Saturday in a game between two heated Eastern Conference rivals that has significant playoff implications as both teams are just a few points ahead of being out of playoff contention. The Canadians are just one point and one spot ahead of the Flyers in the Eastern Conference and have played 60 games so far. The 7th place Flyers have 61 points and sit just 2 points ahead of the 9th place Boston Bruins and have played 57 games.

With only three available playoff spots within a realistic reach, there are 7 teams within 5 points of each other at present. The two teams appear to be headed towards a long playoff race that should last the remainder of the regular season. On Saturday, the Flyers are led by Jeff Carter, who leads the team with 23 goals. Tomas Plekanec, who leads the team with 58 points and 43 assists, will lead the Canadians. His 43 assists place him 7th in the NHL.

The two teams square off in Philadelphia on Friday. The Saturday game is the second game between the two rivals in as many nights. The Canadians beat the Flyers 3 to 1 in the only previous meeting between these two teams occurred on December 7.

Field hockey is performed on gravel, natural lawn, sand-based or water-based artificial turf, with a little, hard ball. The game is well liked amidst both males and females in many components of the world, especially in Europe, Asia, Australia, and South Africa. In most countries, the game is performed between single-sex edges, while they can be mixed-sex.

The ruling body is the 116-member International Hockey Federation (FIH). Men’s Field hockey has been performed at each summer Olympic Games since 1908 (except 1912 and 1924), while Women’s Field Hockey has been performed each summer Olympic Games since 1980.

Modern area hockey twigs are J-shaped and assembled of a composite of timber, glass fibre or carbon fibre (sometimes both) and have a bent snare at the playing end, a flat exterior on the playing edge and bent exterior on the back side. While present area hockey appeared in the mid-18th 100 years in England, mainly in schools, it was not until the first half of the 19th 100 years that it became solidly established. The first association was conceived in 1849 at Blackheath in south-east London. Field hockey is the nationwide games of India and Pakistan[1].

Ice hockey is performed on a large flat locality of ice, utilising a three inch (76.2 mm) diameter vulcanized rubber computer disc called a puck. This puck is often frozen before high-level games to decline the allowance of rebounding and friction on the ice. The game is challenged between two groups of skaters. The game is performed all over North America, Europe and in many other countries around the world to varying extent. It is the most well liked games in Canada, Finland, Latvia, the Czech Republic, and in Slovakia.

The ruling body is the 66-member International Ice Hockey Federation, (IIHF). Men’s ice hockey has been performed at the Winter Olympics since 1924, and was in the 1920 Summer Olympics. Women’s ice hockey was supplemented to the Winter Olympics in 1998. North America’s National Hockey League (NHL) is the strongest expert ice hockey association, drawing peak ice hockey players from around the globe. The NHL directions are rather distinct from those utilised in Olympic ice hockey: the time span are 20 minutes long, counting downwards. There are three periods.

Ice hockey twigs are long L-shaped twigs made of timber, graphite, or composites with a cutting-edge at the base that can lie flat on the playing exterior when the attach is held upright and can bend either way, lawfully, as to help a left- or right-handed contestant gain an advantage.

There are early representations and accounts of ice hockey-type games being performed on ice in the Netherlands, and accounts from Canada from the beginning of the nineteenth 100 years, but the up to date game was mainly coordinated by scholars at McGill University, Montreal in 1875 who, by two years subsequent, codified the first set of ice hockey directions and coordinated the first teams.

Street hockey is founded on ice hockey, but is performed on base, and is generally performed with some kind of ball, most often a exceptional hard rubber ball made for road hockey, while a exceptional puck conceived for roller hockey can furthermore be used. If a puck is utilised, for security the puck generally should not be increased in the air (lifted or roofed).

It is generally performed on some outdoor asphalt exterior, for example a part of road or part of a parking lot. It can furthermore be performed on vacant outdoor basketball or tennis enclosures (when performed on central basketball enclosures and/or gymnasiums, it is generally called floor hockey). The partitions or fencing of these “rinks” assist to hold the ball (or the less often utilised puck) in play likewise to the planks of an ice rink.

Generally, the game is performed with little to no protecting equipment, therefore powerful personal communicate is not very prevalent, and as such, there is no body checking. However, the game does allow a grade of personal communicate alike to that allowed in basketball. Rules and playing methods can contradict from locality to locality counting upon the customs a certain assembly has set aside.

Street hockey goalie allowing a adviser to pass.In casual play, the game can often start with a so called “NHL faceoff”, in which the two opposing hubs hit their twigs against each other three times saying “N”, “H”, “L”. Immediately following the “L” the two players battle to glimpse who assertions ownership of the ball or puck. It is is prevalent to discover the phrase “CAR!” on busier roads which generally means ’stop the game and move the aim nets’, to allow the protected transient of a vehicle. This is often chased by the saying “game on” one time the vehicle has passed.

Although road hockey is well liked all through Canada and the United States, some inhabitants there have increased anxieties about how road hockey distracts suburban neighbourhoods with the disturbance that the game conceives, globes being accidental shot into the residents’ backyards, and the hazard of traffic misfortunes to both players and motorists. This is especially factual in large-scale villages, with anxieties for example vehicles and pedestrians. In Toronto, a ostracise was lately enforced on playing road hockey on town roads, but was turned down due to public outcry against this contentious idea.

A well liked alternate to playing hockey on the road in Canada is to play in outdoor lacrosse boxes. The lacrosse cartons comprise the identical asphalt exterior as the roads, but boasts a more very shrewd feeling of hockey since the playing locality is bigger than the signify road, in supplement to having planks that enclose the lacrosse box. The only downside to this is the lesser dimensions of in-place lacrosse nets.

Similarly to lacrosse cartons, outdoor roller hockey rinks are developing rather well liked in public localities around the United States which allow for a location to play off the occasionally unsafe streets. Outdoor roller hockey rinks are generally enclosed in a games court exterior so equipment does not wear down as quickly as on asphalt. Many can furthermore be enclosed to allow play all through damp climate, and lighted for nighttime hockey.
