On March 24, 2010, the NHL partnered with MSG to deliver the Islanders/Rangers game in 3D, from the Madison Square Garden. To have ever been produced, it was the first 3D network hockey game. MSG is one of the industry leaders in delivering up-to-date and current technology for viewers. Knicks and Rangers home games in HD were the first produced.
The 3D broadcast started with a pre-game viewing party, at the Madison Square Garden Theater. On Cablevision channel and on few providers, the telecast was shown. The seats were filled before the video NHL Hockey previews took place and the tickets to the event cost around twenty bucks.
The game was captured by the use of technology that captures video in 3D imagery. These cameras used pixel enhancing software and were produced by 3ality Digital. A lot of work was done by them behind the scenes and it paid off.
Michael Bair, the President of MSG media, talked about MSG extending into 3-D TV makes sense as they always have been a leader in new technology. From top to bottom, this remodeling venture looks to completely re-outfit the arena and more to the performing athletes and trainers would get help.
The way we watch sports can be completely changed by 3D telecasting. It makes sense that it would be time for another jump as it did just a few years back and High Definition Television technology is improving. When it comes to 3D technology there is a good chance that it will soon be the standard viewing method for sports fanatics everywhere and there are still a few bugs to be worked out.
