The Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadians are set to square off this Saturday in a game between two heated Eastern Conference rivals that has significant playoff implications as both teams are just a few points ahead of being out of playoff contention. The Canadians are just one point and one spot ahead of the Flyers in the Eastern Conference and have played 60 games so far. The 7th place Flyers have 61 points and sit just 2 points ahead of the 9th place Boston Bruins and have played 57 games.

With only three available playoff spots within a realistic reach, there are 7 teams within 5 points of each other at present. The two teams appear to be headed towards a long playoff race that should last the remainder of the regular season. On Saturday, the Flyers are led by Jeff Carter, who leads the team with 23 goals. Tomas Plekanec, who leads the team with 58 points and 43 assists, will lead the Canadians. His 43 assists place him 7th in the NHL.

The two teams square off in Philadelphia on Friday. The Saturday game is the second game between the two rivals in as many nights. The Canadians beat the Flyers 3 to 1 in the only previous meeting between these two teams occurred on December 7.
